Renee Hester Receives DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

VIDALIA – Renee Hester, Meadows Regional Medical Center Emergency Department RN, received the June DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses on Monday, July 17.

The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize nurses who go above and beyond in providing excellent care to their patients every day. Meadows Regional Medical Center, a proud DAISY Award hospital partner, recognizes one nurse each month to receive the special award.

Hester was nominated by Dr. Nancy Shaw, Meadows Regional Medical Center Hospitalist, and by colleague Jim Campbell, Emergency Department RN, for her commendable skills in caring for a critically ill patient for an entire shift. “She took care of the patient as if she were her very own grandmother, providing the best nursing care that I have seen in my career, to include my time as a paramedic.” Campbell stated. “I believe that Renee embodies everything and more that a recipient of this award should possess. MRMC and the nursing profession is very fortunate to have this young lady represent what being a nurse truly means.”

“Renee is such a pleasure to work with,” said Meadows Regional Medical Center Director of Ed/Infusion, Amanda Roose. “She always brings a great attitude and smile to every shift.”

“We are so proud of Renee,” said Meadows Regional Medical Chief Nursing Officer, Michele Malone. “Her compassion is a prime example of the outstanding nursing that takes place at Meadows.”

Renee has been employed with Meadows Regional Medical Center for two years and currently resides in Swainsboro.

The Daisy Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received during his hospital stay inspired this unique means of recognizing extraordinary nurses who make an enormous difference in the lives of patients.

Citizens in the Vidalia Area are being asked to Join Hawk’s Point Golf Course in Vidalia

Posted By admin / July, 26, 2017 / 0 comments

Citizens in the Vidalia area are being asked to join Hawk’s Point Golf Course in Vidalia because of the role it plays in economic development, raising money for community charities and supporting high school golf teams.

“It’s more than just a golf course,” club professional Paul Claxton told a “Save the Golf Course’’ meeting last Thursday night.  The meeting was prompted after the course closed Monday, July 17.  Because of concern shown at the meeting, it was announced Saturday the course was reopening Monday, July 23 to give supporters 60 days to attract 100 new members.  Claxton predicts a membership of at least 200 members will provide a path to making the course self-supporting.

He noted charity tournaments like the annual Sweet Onion Classic, the United Way, the Chamber of Commerce and multiple others raise thousands of dollars for local charities and projects.  The Sweet Onion Classic, which is scheduled for mid-September, has raised $4 million over its 26-year history.  Last year the United Way tournament raised more than $12,000 to support community service agencies in Toombs, Montgomery and Wheeler counties.  The Chamber of Commerce also holds its annual tournament at Hawk’s point as do numerous other organizations and schools.

Bill Mitchell of the Toombs-Montgomery Chamber of Commerce said Hawk’s Point is part of the economic development package that companies consider when they make decisions to bring new businesses and jobs to Toombs County.

Paul Claxton began his trek to the PGA Tour on the Vidalia golf course and is part of the tradition of state champion high school golf teams in Vidalia.  Without Hawk’s Point, area high school teams will have to go out of town to play an 18-hole golf course.  The course is the home course of the Vidalia Lady Indians who have won five consecutive state AA championships and six of the last seven.

Golfers and non-golfers who would like to support the effort to keep a golf course open in Vidalia may contact Claxton at the golf course on Loop Road, call him at 537-9256, or email hawkspointgolfclub.com@cmail19.com.

The cost of an individual membership is $125 per month and includes all members of a family living in a home.  Corporate memberships are also available.
