Paula Thomas Receives September DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Posted By admin / October, 27, 2017 / 0 comments

VIDALIA – Paula Thomas, Meadows Regional Medical Center PACU RN, received the September DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses on Monday, October 23.

The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize nurses who go above and beyond in providing excellent care to their patients every day. Meadows Regional Medical Center, a proud DAISY Award hospital partner, recognizes one nurse each month to receive the special award.

Thomas was nominated by Meadows Regional Medical Center Anesthesiologists Dr. Stacie Wong and Dr. Frank Gibase for noticing a patient’s abnormal vital signs after surgery, thus prompting the need for further exploratory surgery. “If not for Paula’s attention to subtleties, this patient would have had a much different outcome,” Wong said. “Paula’s excellent care of this patient is representative of her attention to detail and superb nursing care of all her patients. A job well done.”

“We are delighted to honor Paula with the DAISY award,” said Meadows Regional Medical Chief Nursing Officer, Michele Malone. “She is an excellent nurse who strives to provide the best care to every patient she meets.”

Thomas has been employed with Meadows Regional Medical Center for fifteen years and currently resides in Ailey.

The Daisy Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received during his hospital stay inspired this unique means of recognizing extraordinary nurses who make an enormous difference in the lives of patients.
