Be Sure to Wear your Purple tomorrow, October 19th to Raise Awareness for Purple Thursday

THE REFUGE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER

Purple Thursday

Many people don’t know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month – even though 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and an average of 3 women die every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner. Join us Thursday, October 19 by wearing or displaying purple to raise awareness about domestic violence. Share a photo to Facebook and Instagram, tag

The Refuge Domestic Violence Shelter in your photo and use the #PurpleThursday.
We had a great response to this last year and are hoping for even more participation this year. Unfortunately, we had one of our own, LaShanda January, murdered this summer in Vidalia. Her family, Refuge staff and board members and citizens will gather in front of Shoney’s (where she worked) at 2:30 to remember her and the other 94 victims who were murdered in GA due to domestic violence this past year. Please join us as we release 95 purple balloons in their honor. We would love to come by your business or office to take photos of your staff dressed in purple. Please call us at 912-538-9936 to let us know and we will come and take a photo and put it on our Facebook page. We are once again selling purple t-shirts this year. They come in sizes small to 2X (we are sold out of 3X) and are super-soft, unisex shirts for $14.00.

Join us and use #PurpleThursday as YOUR opportunity to get involved, take a stand against domestic violence, and express your solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and their families. If you have any questions or would like to purchase a t-shirt or participate in another way, please contact The Refuge at 912-538-9936. Thank you!
